War in Syria: Prophecy Fulfilling?

Before we begin to touch on this topic, you must know that I have thus far restrained myself not to speak on subjects such as prophesy because many of you may discredit any intellectual topics we have covered in the past.  However, it is my duty to speak the truth and inform people of important events unraveling in our world.  I will not go into great detail on this topic since there are many places to conduct thorough research (and I trust that those of you who think critically will exhaust some of these resources).  I will however share with you that in my opinion, based on logic, faith and study of historical accuracy of similar prophesies, I believe this to be true.

Let’s start by looking at modern-day Damascus:

Since April of last year (2011), we have been watching Syria lose stability and tumble towards civil war.  We see daily protests in mass numbers in major cities, one of them is Damascus.  The capital and second largest city in Syria.  So far, it is reported by the United Nations that over 6,000 people have been killed in this conflict which is often described as the people rising up against the government and the government retaliating with deadly response.  The high number of reported casualties has drawn international attention and Syria is now at the hot-seat for debate among the EU, NATO, the Arab League, etc.  The question we’re now wondering is will the NATO interfere with  forcible action that the current sanctions.  One of the causes for debate is the refusal and VETO from Russia and China against a UN resolution plan, it is also reported and admitted that Russia is continuously supplying the government of Syria with weapons.  Without looking at all of the details, we’re currently standing at the tipping point.  We’re on the brink of another Middle East civil war with the western world standing on opposite sides of Russia and China.

I trust that you have read or will read more about the conflict in the news, it’s available on a daily basis on all major new stations.  The following link provides a guide to the past and current events in Syria:

The conflict is escalating, Syria is on the brink of civil war and the world is divided on which side to support.  We have yet to see if and who will take aggressive action; either with the Assad government or with the opposition.

Damascus in Prophesy:

Somewhere I have read about this conflict years ago, somewhere was described the destruction of Damascus, somewhere it was told that this would happen.  Below is what I have read and have recently returned to:

“The burden of Damascus.  Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap… “ – Isaiah 17:1

“The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria…” – Isaiah 17:3

“Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her as a woman in travail.   How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!   Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day…” – Jeremiah 49:24-27

The preceding texts were written over 2100 years ago, in the Bible (KJV).  As you can see, predictions made thousands of years ago are relevant and accurately describe today’s events.  Regardless of what you believe , the fact that this was prophesied by Isaiah and Jeremiah over 2100 years ago should compel you enough to read it yourself, I highly recommend the Bible or the Torah.

There are many biblical prophecies which have been fulfilled in the past and the destruction of Damascus/Syria is just one of many that are being realized before our very eyes.  “He that hath an ear, let him hear” – Matt 11:15
